Mill City House

The Mill City House is one of the few pioneer cabins in the area that is still in its original location. County records show the building in 1863. Records indicate that the building once had two stables, a barn and a corral. These additions were lost in the late 1950’s. The Mill City House was known to have a billiard room, lavish bar, piano and a dining area for weary travelers. The walls were decorated by Sarah Green, who brought fancy wallpapers from Nauvoo, Illinois in 1868. Over the years , the building was a stage stop, meeting hall, gift shop and a U.S. Post Office. The Mill Creek Valley Historical Society acquired the building in 1999 from John Harding. The building had been neglected for a long time and needs lots of work. MCVHS has been raising funds for years to get started on repairs and also got the building on the National Register of Historic Places. A grant was obtained in 2005 to do a complete assessment of the building which was completed by The Collaborative Inc. in 2006. Restoration work has begun but it is a slow going and expensive.
