Built in 1909 by George Keys, The one room school provided education for grades one thru eight until 1959 when all of the Clear Creek County schools were consolidated into one district and the students were transferred to Idaho Springs or Georgetown. After the school was closed, it was used only as a storage place by the school district. The Mill Creek Valley Historical Society (MCVHS) was formed in 1982, primarily to save the Dumont School and restore the building. Fundraising began and by 1987 MCVHS was the proud owner of the old schoolhouse. In 1996 the schoolhouse was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Today the building is used for community events and is available for anyone who needs space for meetings, memorial services, weddings or even educational classes. After all, it is a schoolhouse.
